Protecting your information.
Last week we had a thread on one of our groups talking about giving away too much personal information. While I felt it was such an old lesson to learn I was shocked to find out that I had also become complacent with my “Personal Information”
While I share more than the ‘average bear’ online I certainly felt safe in the knowledge that my content on my FB page was locked down. I was shocked to learn that to an extent it was open for anyone to see who my friends were, which groups I belonged to, places I had visited as well as a few posts that went public by accident.
We have seen so many people get their pages hacked and an easy way to hack someone’s page is to start a page in their name, then copy their pictures load them up on the page and then ask all their friends to be friends. So many people on FB keep their friends lists open for anyone to see and I was one of them.
So I started to clean up my page and while another discussion started I learnt many people just have no idea how to lock down their page.
So here is one way to lock your page down so people who are not your friends can see any information about you.
Go to your page and click the arrow down to ‘View As’ this shows what people will see if they land on your page.
If your page is open – people who are not your friends will be able to see ‘About you, Photos, friends, places, groups and events, plus more”
To close it right down go to your friends box and click the pencil to ‘Manage Sections’
The manage section box will come up
And untick to hide all the sections so people who are not your friends cannot find this information.
Once I had done this I doubled checked by going to “View As”
I hope this helps.
