Exploring Taupo
Taupo is one of my favourite destinations. There is plenty to do that doesn’t cost a fortune. There is a beautiful walk from Spa Park that heads down to Huka Falls. Return it can take up to two hours. Unless you are a photographer. We took our time following some of the off track trails so we could capture as much as we could. We took about four hours. This walk didn’t disappoint.
10 minutes in you will discover a natural hotspring. Locals and tourists were enjoying the hot spring as well as swimming in the river. The river is so crystal clear.
Further down we discovered a little alcove. We spent about an hour here just exploring the trees and a family of ducks were also visiting. Two baby ducks. With the water so clear you could see them swimming.
The paths are accessible for prams and strollers. Make sure you take enough water as the path can get very hot when not under the trees.
We made it.
Fantastic day and well worth the trip. Try to go earlier in the day when it isn’t as hot. Huka falls can get really busy but there are some nice trees off to the side where you can have a picnic under the trees and wait for the tour buses leave. There is also a little shop where you can purchase water if you run out. OH and it costs .50cents to use the bathroom!
