Recently I attended a women’s group to give a talk on “How to find your truth”. It was a casual get together which I thoroughly enjoyed.

As women we are often stretched to the limit. Some of us are mothers, wives as well as full-time business operators. I admire any woman who as a mother, also embarks on running a business full-time. It is a hard yakka.

Recently we had a wee fella stay with us for a week, and at three years old, he was delightful but man oh man was he constantly on the go. After a few days my husband turned to me and asked me how the hell I managed being a single mum, while being employed part time and studying full time. After a full on afternoon running around keeping Mr. Three entertained, I had no idea!

I think as women we just “do”. If it needs to be done, we do it.

At the end of my talk at the women’s group I had a woman tell me that she follows me on social media. She said she is so inspired by my drive and passion and just loves watching all the great things I get into in my community.

I’ve inspired her to find her passion although she still hasn’t found it yet. She asked me how I found mine. I truly didn’t know how to answer because everyday I feel I am fighting that battle of being put in a box … “oh she’s that”…. But I dont want to be just one thing. While at the moment my passion is community and social media they aren’t the only things I am passionate about.

In the Titanic movie Rose is parted from Jack at the end (rather tragically of course) but for the rest of her life she lives with such adventure. That struck a chord with me and I believe I can live many lives in one. I don’t have to be just that one thing. So my passion for now is business but I am forever trying new things. I want to end my life with a scrapbook full of adventures. From learning new skills, living life to the fullest and being free.

Tomorrow who knows? – I’ve realised that is my truth. That sole purpose gives me freedom. We get so consumed by material things and non issues that we forget every day we waste we won’t get back.

The thing with passion is you won’t find it thinking about it. You just have to find things you love to do and DO! You may be passionate about them for a few years until something else comes along. Just push yourself and read as many books, listen to podcasts, follow people you admire and your Truth, your passion will be there.
Right, get out there and start doing.

I haven’t known about S.M.A.R.T goals for very long but they have transformed the way i think and how i now plan out my goals and projects.

Specific – target a specific goal

Measurable – quantify or at least suggest an indicator of progress.

Assignable – specify who will do it.

Realistic – state what results can realistically be achieved, given available resources.

Time-related – specify when the results will be achieved

Lets break it down even further. When you are setting a goal or task it is important to be specific as you can be. Try going through below options

Specific

When start to clarify your goal – Break it down into the Five “W”

What: What is the goal?

Why: Why do i want this goal.

Who: Who else do i need to be able to complete this goal?

Where: Where does the goal take place.

Which: Which things do i need to be able to reach my goal

Measure

A measurable goal will usually answer questions such as:

How much?

How many?

How will I know when it is accomplished?

Indicators should be quantifiable

Attainable

An achievable goal will usually answer the question How?

How can the goal be accomplished?

How realistic is the goal based on other constraints?

Relevant

A relevant goal can answer yes to these questions:

Does this seem worthwhile?

Is this the right time?

Does this match our other efforts/needs?

Are you the right person?

Is it applicable in the current socio-economic environment?

Time – Bound

A time-bound goal will usually answer the question

When?

What can I do six months from now?

What can I do six weeks from now?

What can I do today?

About 11 years ago I read an article about “How many hours you waste in your life”

At the time I was a Single mum and I had no direction. I was searching for my purpose or something to sink my teeth into. I was scared but nothing scared me more than when I added up how many hours I watched tv.

I had a vivid dream that night (which I can remember in detail to this day) I was dead standing at the pearly white gates of heaven and God pointed at me and asked me to tell him my greatest moments in my life. I was shocked at first and then reeled off some of my greatest adventures only I realised they weren’t mine but those adventures of Actors on the best tv shows. I then had an aerial view and I could see it all unfolding and It was then that I had an epiphany. I wasn’t living at all I was spending far to much time watching tv and essentially living through the tv.

I woke up that morning with purpose and one was to shut the tv off. I remember thinking it was going to be so hard and what would I do, especially at night.

I decided no matter what I did with my life I would make sure I was doing it, living it. No more spending hours at night watching tv. ( I do watch tv but I have 3 shows a week I watch only)

As I look back and connect all the dots of those 11 years I have learnt I am a creative. It’s who I am. I can’t hide from it and I live everyday creating. Most days it is creating ideas and empowering others and on other days it is drawing, painting, designing, writing or photographing.

Being an entrepreneur is who I am also. Self employed doing more than one thing at one time. It is usually juggling a lot of balls in the air and to be honest I wouldn’t have it any other way.

As a creative I have to be continually moving. I have learnt (in the past the hard way) that I cannot stay doing the same thing for to long. So working a nine to five job doing one task, having one goal kills me. I get 6 months down the track and I’m done. I thrive on having diversity. It works for me and it has taken me a few years to figure out that this is who I am and instead of fighting to fit into everyone else’s mould it is better for me to just have a mould that is ever evolving like I am.

I always think about that dream from time to time and think have I done enough, explored enough and the answer is always NO. I have a thirst for adventure and I know later in life ( a lot later) when it is time to be standing at those Gates I can say “ Man I lived!”

[social_button button=”facebook” flayout=”button_count” fwidth=”450″ faction=”like” fcolorsheme=”light”]
